Newcastle United have stepped up their pursuit of Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot with negotiations over a potential move to St James’ Park well underway, according to Calciomercato.
Controversy seems to follow the France international wherever he goes and it seems that he lives almost permanently in the headlines these days.
While Rabiot took to Instagram to mock claims that he had gone on strike in Turin, new reports from Italy double down on the suggestions that he and his representatives have not taken well to the pay cut he has been asked to take during a period of unprecedented financial uncertainty.
This, combined with some rather underwhelming performances on the pitch, seem to suggest that Rabiot will be on his way again this summer – just a year after he swapped PSG for the Serie A champions.
Everton are once again in the market for a player they have tried to sign ‘for years’ with little success. Although with Carlo Ancelotti in the dugout, the Toffees hopes have been given a boost.
It was Ancelotti, of course, who handed Rabiot his senior debut eight years ago.

But Calciomercato believe that it is another Premier League club, a Newcastle side who are on the verge of being taken over by a Saudi Arabian billionaire, who have their foot slammed down on the accelerator.
The Magpies have apparently offered the £25 million-rated Rabiot a big contract which apparently dwarves the £120,000-a-week pay-packet he earns at Juventus.
Ancelotti or not, Everton could be set to miss out on their long-time target yet again.
