Newcastle United have asked Manchester United about the striker, according to reports.

Newcastle United have enquired about Manchester United striker James Wilson, according to The Mail.
The Magpies are set to slug it out in the Championship this season and they will need a prolific goalscorer at this level in order to win promotion.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has already recruited Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace but it remains to be seen if the Spaniard wants additional firepower.
The Mail claim that they do after reporting that Newcastle were one of 12 clubs to have asked Manchester United about the 20-year-old’s availability.

The report goes on to suggest West Bromwich Albion have also asked about him, which could be a problem given that the Baggies are a Premier League side and Wilson – who spent last season on loan with Championship side Preston – may want top-flight experience.
At the moment, Benitez has Aleksandar Mitrovic and Gayle as forward options, and of course Adam Armstrong although the youngster’s short-term future at St James’s Park is unclear.
Newcastle kick off their Championship season on August 5 with a visit to London side Fulham.
