Newcastle United are working to keep both Matty and Sean Longstaff.
According to The Times, Newcastle United have opened talks with both Sean and Matty Longstaff about new contracts with the club.
The Magpies haven’t had the best record in terms of bringing through their own young players in recent years, but the Longstaff brothers are attempting to change that.
Sean emerged into the Newcastle first team last season, with Rafael Benitez finally giving him a chance after an impressive loan spell at Blackpool.
He starred in the Newcastle midfield, and now plays a key role under Steve Bruce too, with the 21-year-old looking set for stardom at St James’ Park.
Brother Matty is just emerging too after a decent pre-season, and it seems that Newcastle are fighting hard to keep both players with the club for some time yet.
It’s claimed that Newcastle are in talks over new contracts for both players, with Sean offered a huge £80,000-a-week to stay with the club, a massive pay rise from his current £25,000-a-week earnings.
That may well be enough for Longstaff to commit his future to the Magpies, and frustrate Manchester United in the process, having attempted to sign him over the summer.
Newcastle wanted £50million, whereas United would only pay £20million, meaning no deal was done, and the midfielder could expect to earn Jonjo Shelvey-like wages if he does sign a new contract.
