Newcastle United don’t believe they are ready for Antonio Conte to come and manage them yet, the Athletic say.
Conte to Newcastle?
Conte has apparently been recommended to Newcastle by multiple figures.
However, the club are reluctant to go and get the Italian boss, as they feel he may not be the right manager for them at this time.
Newcastle’s current job is to get away from the relegation zone, and most of Conte’s experience comes from fighting at the end other end of the table.
The Magpies apparently feel that Conte is better suited as a short-term appointment.
Other options being looked at?
And while there is plenty of clamour for the 52-year-old to come to St. James’ Park, Newcastle reportedly feel they are better off looking at other options for the time being.

The likes of Paulo Fonseca and Eddie Howe are thought to be among the front runners for the job, and both could potentially be more long-term options.
The update will still disappoint some Newcastle fans, who may have been hoping for a high calibre appointment, though.
There is no doubting Conte’s credentials, and if he had arrived, it really would have highlighted the club’s ambition under their new ownership.
