Newcastle United have suffered a blow in the race for Boubacar Kamara as Sevilla have made contact with the defender.

According to GFFN, the La Liga side have approached the Olympique Marseille star’s entourage in case Jules Kounde completes a move to Chelsea.

The Sevilla defender is in talks to join the west London side, and Kamara could replace his fellow countryman.

Newcastle have been linked with the 21-year-old defender for most of the summer window. As reported by the Mirror, Marseille want £15m for the versatile youngster.

However, the Magpies are yet to make a concrete approach for Kamara.

Steve Bruce’s side have only signed Joe Willock this summer with the Arsenal midfielder joining on a permanent deal. The midfielder was key to Newcastle finishing in 12th place in the Premier League last season.

And now, Newcastle are keen to add a defender to their ranks, with Kamara the target for Bruce. Marseille are eager to sell the French youngster due to their precarious financial situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

But, with a UEFA Champions League side in Sevilla now in the frame for Kamara, Newcastle could miss out on the defender should Chelsea complete the signing of Kounde in the coming days.

It would be a blow to Newcastle, especially given how much quality Kamara has and the potential the Frenchman possesses.
