According to 90min, Newcastle are expected to hold further talks with Manchester United over a deal for Jesse Lingard.

What’s the story?

Well, it was said that talks between the two Premier League clubs had broken down on Tuesday, although they’re not completely dead.

90min believe discussions are set to resume, with Lingard left angered after Manchester United blocked him from leaving Old Trafford.

Newcastle are said to have made an extremely attractive offer to the 29-year-old, who is not entirely convinced by a move to Tyneside.

However, the Red Devils are unwilling to weaken themselves at a time where Coronavirus is regularly testing squad depth.

According to 90min, the Magpies are ready to make Lingard their highest earner, and are also willing to pay a hefty £10m loan fee.

The 32-cap England international becomes a free agent in June.

Newcastle should push for Jesse Lingard

If we were Eddie Howe, we would keep pushing for this deal.

Yes, £10m is a lot to pay for a six-month loan spell, although it could well be the difference between relegation and survival for Newcastle.

Lingard proved he needs little time to settle last season when he plundered nine goals and five assists in just 16 Premier League appearances while on loan at West Ham.

If he could do the same for Newcastle, then there’s no reason why the Magpies can’t avoid relegation to the Championship.

For Lingard, we also see no reason why he’d be against this.

He would receive a huge salary increase, regular game time, and a chance to impress Gareth Southgate ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

Keep an eye on this saga, as it simply won’t die down.
