Alexander Isak to Newcastle United isn’t dead in the water yet.
The Magpies spent most of July trying to coax the big Sweden international from Real Sociedad and failed with a £40 million offer.
It was then reported that Newcastle would be walking away from Isak after the striker demanded £200,000 per week to join the St James’s Park club.
This was almost a month ago, however, and the Tyneside outfit haven’t managed to sign an alternative number nine.
And this afternoon, The Chronicle reported that Isak to Newcastle was still under consideration by the Premier League outfit.
The report claims that the Spanish club would prefer a figure of around £50 million and with Eddie Howe failing to sign an another striker since then, renewed interest seems logical.
This will please many Newcastle supporters.
Howe’s side kicked off their Premier League campaign with a victory last weekend but you get the impression that they’re still one quality striker away from being a real force in the competition this season.
Callum Wilson is awesome on his day, and no doubt Chris Wood is a capable number two despite struggling during the second half of last season.
But Isak is someone who could and may be able to fire Newcastle to a new level and it’ll be fascinating to see whether this report is accurate and he’s genuinely back on their radar.
