Newcastle United are still interested in landing the Brentford playmaker.
A report in The Sun has suggested that Newcastle United could be about to complete a £600,000 move for Brentford playmaker Alan Judge, just a few months after another report suggested that the fee could be £10 million.
The Irish Sun reported back in September that the Magpies were preparing to spend the hefty sum on the 28-year-old during next month’s window despite the horrific leg break that he suffered towards the end of last season.
Brentford’s Alan Judge in action
But with Judge still yet to make his return to the first-team eight months after the incident in a game against Ipswich back in April, it appears that his stock has dropped dramatically.
The Sun is now suggesting that Newcastle’s move for the Republic of Ireland international could see the Bees pocket less than £1 million.
It would certainly have been a gamble for the Championship leaders to spend anything like the amount they were expected to pay back in September as Judge is yet to return to action.
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez
It would be more than understandable if the severity of his injury, coupled with the length of time he has spent on the sidelines, meant that he struggled to become the player he was when he was at his best at Griffin Park.
But if he is able to replicate the form he showed last term – he scored 14 and contributed 11 assists for the Bees – then Newcastle will have surely landed an absolute bargain if the move does happen.
