According to The Telegraph, Graeme Jones could be put in charge of Newcastle’s clash with Tottenham if Steve Bruce is sacked.
What’s the story?
Well, after the arrival of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, Amanda Staveley and Jamie Reuben, things are all change.
The Sports Direct advertising has been ripped down from St James’ Park, and the new owners are also considering a change in the dugout.
Interestingly, The Telegraph claim sources close to Newcastle have expressed doubt that Bruce will still be in charge by October 17th.
If he is to receive his P45, however, talks over a payout worth £8m would have to take place, as Bruce still has a contract on Tyneside.
That is a serious amount of money to give someone who has, quite frankly, done the bare minimum expected of him across the last two years.
Graeme Jones a better fit for Newcastle than Steve Bruce?
Back in March, the Daily Mail revealed that Newcastle players were hoping Jones took the reins from Bruce on Tyneside.
It was said that players felt they had a better chance of Premier League survival under the 51-year-old, after Bruce had a training ground bust-up with Matt Ritchie.
In that respect, the Newcastle players should surely be raring to go if Jones is handed control of the upcoming Tottenham clash.
The ex-Bournemouth man is an excellent coach, and was even named among Gareth Southgate’s staff for EURO 2020.
Who knows? If Jones does well and achieves a few results while acting as Caretaker Manager, perhaps Staveley will give him the job full-time.
For now, keep an eye on Bruce’s situation, as it seems inevitable he’ll receive the sack soon.
