Newcastle United’s takeover still hasn’t been completed, and now looks set to run into July – when many would have hoped to have it done by the start of May.
The £300million Saudi-led takeover bid has been agreed in principle, but Newcastle are still waiting for Premier League acceptance.
It’s therefore difficult for the Magpies to plan anything moving forward; nobody knows who the club’s manager will be next season, who will be director of football, who will be calling the shots.
Newcastle are still being linked with players though. RMC Sport reported last month that Newcastle would move for Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile, providing that their takeover materialises.
Back then, it was stated that Leverkusen had positioned themselves strongly in the race. Now, L’Equipe du Soir claim that Leverkusen are in ‘advanced talks’ over a deal to sign the defender.
Get French Football News report that Monaco want €35million (£31.5million) for their teenager defender, with Leverkusen potentially looking to pair add him to a defence that already contains Edmond Tapsoba and Jonathan Tah.
That would be some coup for Leverkusen, and whilst there isn’t much Newcastle can do about it right now, they could miss out on 19-year-old Badiashile.
The Frenchman looks set for a bright future, so would have been an exciting addition, but it looks like Leverkusen are pushing to ensure Newcastle don’t get a chance to sign him.
