Newcastle United could launch a move to sign Chelsea star Timo Werner next month, with the attacker set to decide whether he wants to leave west London just before the closure of the transfer window.

According to Sport Bild, the Germany international is weighing up his options this summer following reports that Newcastle are once again interested in signing Werner, with the attacker a player who could potentially leave Chelsea in the coming month if he decides the Blues are not right for him.

Werner’s spell with Chelsea has been mixed, to say the least, with the attacker often lambasted for his inconsistent form and comical misses that have earned the striker a poor reputation amongst Premier League supporters, and this could push the former RB Leipzig star to leave the club amid interest from Newcastle.

A superstar who earns a reported £270,000-a-week, Werner is one of Chelsea’s highest-paid players, only behind N’Golo Kante according to some publications, and the German leaving this summer could allow the Blues to sign a new leading forward that could replace the 26-year-old as well as Romelu Lukaku, who has returned to Inter Milan on loan.

Indeed, Newcastle are in need of a striker this summer with Callum Wilson’s injury record something that can’t be relyed upon for an entire season, and Werner himself could be up for a challenge to the northeast side, especially given how exciting the future will be for the Magpies under the PIF regime.

Whilst Werner signed for Chelsea for a reported £45m, Newcastle could easily match this fee and then some of the German does decide to leave Stamford Bridge, and the attacker could be a revolutionary addition for the Magpies for the coming season.

Werner is clearly an attacker of immense quality, but like many attackers who come to Chelsea, the strikers curse has inflicted him, and moving to Newcastle could be the perfect chance for the forward to redeem himself in the eyes of English football fans, who are some of the harshest critics in the sport.

Howe is building an exciting squad that is missing that extra something in the frontline, and Werner could provide that in spades should the striker decide to leave Chelsea next month, a growing possibility given the club’s form over pre-season.
