The Portuguese star is a long-term target of both Arsenal and Newcastle United.
Magpies boss Rafa Benitez is set to revisit his interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to the Mirror, following news that Arsenal are lining up a bid for the Portuguese enforcer.
The Spaniard is believed to want to beef up his midfield options, as he looks to guide his side to a successful campaign upon their return to the Premier League.

And Carvalho, 25, would be just the ticket. He is incredibly strong in the tackle, possesses unrivalled stamina levels, and is part of a rare of players who can perform the box-to-box role with distinction.
The Mirror claim that the Gunners are lining up a £26.8 million swoop for the Portugal international, but that has sparked interest from Newcastle, with Benitez thought to be closely monitoring the situation.
There is a sense on Tyneside that the Magpies have turned the corner, after a disappointing start to the transfer window, with Jacob Murphy and Javi Manquillo completing their moves to St James’ Park.
If Rafa could somehow pull of the signing of Carvalho though, it would surely be the icing on the cake for Newcastle, and would be a real statement of intent from the Toon.
