Newcastle United could blow Marseille out of the water in the race to sign Dimitris Giannoulis, SportTime in Greece say.
Newcastle and Marseille have both been keen to sign Giannoulis from PAOK this summer, but the Magpies seem to have more financial power at this time.
While Marseille simply cannot afford to meet PAOK’s asking price, Newcastle can do so, and therefore seem to be leading the race for his signature.
Newcastle may be shopping on a limited budget this term, but Giannoulis’s is apparently available for £5 million, which is more than Marseille can afford.
If Giannoulis was to move to St. James’ Park he would offer Steve Bruce’s side more cover at left-back.

Newcastle had Jetro Willems and Danny Rose play on the left hand side of defence for them last term, but neither of their loan moves have been made permanent yet.
Giannoulis could prove to be a cheaper option than either of the aforementioned pair, and his arrival could appeal for Newcastle as a value for money capture.
