There’s never a dull moment in the sphere of Newcastle United these days and there’s another interesting development been reported today.
As we await the Premier League’s decision on the proposed £300 million takeover of the Magpies, owner Mike Ashley has another incentive to leave the North-East for good.
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle could be set for a £30 million hit in the form of a rebate to Sky Sports and BT.
Both broadcasters are seeking returns for the money doled out to Premier League clubs for the 2019-20 campaign.
And The Chronicle has reported that the Magpies might have to pay back anywhere from £10 million to £30 million, depending on where Steve Bruce’s side – who are 13th in the table – finish the season.
The report adds that obviously this wouldn’t be Ashley’s responsibility if Saudi Public Investment Fund is successful in buying the St James’s Park club.
They would own 80 percent of Newcastle, while Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers would also have shares.
The delay is linked to suggestions of broadcast piracy relating to Saudi PIF, but it’s been reported that the buying and selling parties remain confident that a deal will go through.
