The Evening Chronicle have reported that Newcastle United are considering whether to offer young goalscorer Luke Charman a new contract to remain at St. James’ Park for the foreseeable future.

Charman, 20, has been in excellent form for the Toon’s Under-23 side this season, amassing an impressive 11 goals in both the Premier League 2 and the Premier League Cup.

He continued his excellent goalscoring form with a brace last time out, as the Toon knocked out Colchester United in the Cup with a convincing 3-0 win at Whitley Park – with Mo Sangare scoring the other.

It is unclear how long Charman has on his remaining Newcastle contract, but with Rafa Benitez looking to release a retained list at the end of the season, he must consider handing out a handful of new contracts to those he wants to keep.

A number of Newcastle youngsters are set to see their contracts expire in the summer, as are Massadio Haidara and Curtis Good after being completely frozen out from first-team action this season.

Yet to make a first-team appearance for the Toon, Charman is certainly going the right way about making an impression as he continues to find the back of the net on a regular basis.
