According to Sky Sports, Newcastle are interesting in hiring Luis Campos as their new Director of Football, following the takeover.

What’s the story?

Well, despite having what is effectively a bottomless pit of money, it seems Amanda Staveley and co. are keen to do things properly on Tyneside.

The new owners appear intent on laying down foundations at Newcastle, rather than spending silly amounts of money in-cohesively.

As a result, the Magpies are eyeing Campos as the man to tie everything together between the playing staff and the transfer market.

The 57-year-old is currently unemployed after leaving Lille at the end of last season.

His work with the French side helped them beat Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title last term, as gems found by Campos shone.

That came after he spent time with his close friend José Mourinho at Real Madrid, before a successful stint at Monaco.

The Portuguese transfer guru has a quite incredible CV.

Campos was the man who discovered Kylian Mbappe – according to Sky Sports – while he’s identified many other quality players as well.

The likes of Bernardo Silva, Fabinho, James Rodriguez, Nicolas Pepe and Anthony Martial were found for peanuts by Campos, before being sold for huge fees.

He remarkably amassed over £500m profit in player sales at Monaco and Lille in just four years.

Unsurprisingly, such fine work has seen Campos dubbed ‘The Wizard of Capital Gains’ – a deserved title, to say the least.

If PIF can get him to Tyneside, Newcastle would surely become a force to be reckoned with.
