Newcastle United are closing in on one season-long loan, and are preparing a similar bid for Arsenal defender Calum Chambers.

A report in the Telegraph has suggested that Newcastle are closing in on a deal for Tammy Abraham after being given some assurances, while they are also considering making a bid for Arsenal defender Calum Chambers.

The Telegraph reports that the Magpies were targeting signing the Chelsea striker on a season-long loan, but had some concerns about completing a deal with Abraham reportedly interested in staying in the south and wanting to talk to fellow automatic-promotion winners Brighton and Hove Albion before making a decision on where he will be next season.

However, the Telegraph adds that the Blues want the 19-year-old to head to St James’ Park due to the size and stature of the club as it will help prepare him for the expectation at Stamford Bridge, and Abraham appears to feel the same and is now ready to sign up to play for Rafa Benitez’s men next term.

And it appears that with the deal for the teenager being close to completion, Newcastle are wasting little time moving on to their next target.

The Telegraph reports that Benitez wants Chambers, also on a season-long loan as he looks to bolster his defensive ranks, but a deal for the former Southampton man may not be given the green light by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger following his impressive loan spell at Middlesbrough this past season.

If Newcastle do manage to pull off the two deals, it will arguably give them a tremendous boost ahead of their top flight return.

As mentioned, Chambers’ performances gave Boro fans something to be positive about last season, while Abraham was one of the most ruthless goalscorers in the Championship last season, scoring 23 times in the league.
