Newcastle United are considering making a loan bid for Liverpool full-back Andrew Robertson during the January transfer window.

According to a report from the Chronicle, Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is hoping to use his connections with Liverpool to try and bolster the Magpies’ squad – and one of the players he is reportedly keen on signing is Andrew Robertson.

Newcastle find themselves in the Premier League’s bottom three after a torrid run of form that has seen them lose eight of their last nine games and win just once since mid-September.

Unsurprisingly, Benitez is hoping to use the January transfer window to give his squad some additional quality. And the Chronicle reports that he has three Liverpool players on his radar and has been asked to be kept informed of any players that Jurgen Klopp is prepared to loan out.

According to the Chronicle, as well as Danny Ings and Daniel Sturridge, Newcastle are keen to try and put together a loan deal for left-back Robertson, who has endured a mixed time since arriving at Anfield from Hull City for £10 million – as reported by BBC Sport – in the summer.

Despite only making six top flight appearances to date, it would surely be a surprise if Klopp was willing to allow the Scotland international to make a temporary move to Goodison Park.

Robertson has featured much more prominently lately, and put in his best performance to date during the emphatic win over Bournemouth at the weekend, so if he is allowed to leave for Newcastle for the rest of the campaign, it may not go down too well amongst Reds fans perhaps.

If the Magpies were able to bring the 23-year-old to the club, that would arguably be a brilliant piece of business as they fight for survival.

Serious questions have been asked of Newcastle’s full-back options this term, and Robertson appears to be hitting a good spell of form and may well to be able to prove a point to his parent club, so may be an ideal signing if Benitez can somehow manage to convince his old side to let him move to Newcastle for the rest of the season.
