Newcastle United are in talks to sign Sampdoria defender Omar Colley with the Serie A giant available for around £7 million, according to Yeni Asir.

To say it has been a busy month for Fenerbahce would be an understatement.

While the transfer window has been slightly lacking in the drama department, one of Turkey’s biggest clubs have still given us plenty of talking points.

Fenerbahce brought a merciful end to years of incessant speculation when they released Mesut Ozil from his Arsenal prison. A few days later, they returned to London for QPR’s jet-heeled winger Bright Osayi-Samuel.

And, according to Yeni Asir, Fenerbahce are now in talks to strengthen their defence with the 6ft 3ins Gambia international Colley.

The 28-year-old is expected to be available for somewhere in the region of £7 million; a cut-price fee for a defender who was one of Serie A’s best in 2019/20.

The report backs up claims from Tuttomercatoweb on Monday, stating that Newcastle have entered discussions about a deal that would see Colley leave Italy for England.

Steve Bruce’s Magpies have lost five consecutive league games – and seven of their last nine. Colley would undoubtedly strengthen a team who have the fourth-worst defensive record in the Premier League.

Interestingly, the former Genk ace only signed a new contract at Sampdoria a few weeks ago. It seems that the Genoa-based outfit are still keen to cash in should the opportunity arise.
