Chelsea are reportedly willing to sell Timo Werner this summer for just €33m (£27m) amid interest from Newcastle United as well as Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig, with the latter the favourites to sign the German striker.

According to Sport Bild, Chelsea are eager to offload the 26-year-old attacker for good in this transfer window, with the Blues willing to take a huge loss on Werner if it means selling the forward in the coming weeks, with the likes of Newcastle and Leipzig interested in signing the German.

However, as per the report, favourites Leipzig believe the transfer fee is way too high following their recent acquisition of Hoffenheim defender David Raum, but there is hope that the east German side could sign Werner on loan for the season with an obligation to buy clause for next summer.

With a reported wage of £272,000-a-week, Werner is one of the Premier League’s highest-paid players, yet as per the report, the striker will be willing to forgo most of this salary if he was to return to Leipzig, which could accelerate Chelsea’s attempt to sell the Newcastle target for the year.

Indeed, whilst the Toon have the funds to make a signing possible, it appears that Werner has his heart set on a return to Leipzig, the club where the Germany international made a name for himself and where the forward has so far played his best football at.

Whilst Newcastle would be an exciting move for Werner, there’s no denying that a move to Leipzig would be perfect for the striker ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with the forward likely to return to his best ahead of Germany’s attempt to win a fifth world title whilst out in Qatar.

Newcastle have to pull off a miracle for Chelsea to sell Werner to them

Werner returning to Leipzig feels like a forgone conclusion at this stage, and for Newcastle, they will need to pull off something incredible if they’re to convince Chelsea to sell the German superstar to them this summer, which at this stage looks very unlikely.

However, missing out on Werner is hardly the end of the world. With the deepest pocket in world football, Newcastle can easily turn to another target this summer, and with over a month to go in the transfer window, the Magpies can easily find multiple alternatives to the Premier League forward who could be better suited to Eddie Howe’s style.
