Newcastle United look to have ensured that they will be playing Premier League football next season.

Newcastle fans may initially be left feeling extremely concerned about what the future may hold for Rafa Benitez with a prospect of a La Liga side lurking and eyeing up a potential move, but the Daily Mirror has suggested that there may be one significant upside for the Magpies with Real Sociedad considering a potential approach for the Spaniard.
Benitez has done a superb job at St James’ Park. After guiding the club to Championship promotion, he has put them on the cusp of securing survival in their first season back in the Premier League after victories over Southampton and Huddersfield, and Magpies fans may be optimistic that there may an exciting summer to come – should Benitez stay.

While it is not clear whether Benitez would find the opportunity particularly tempting or not, the Mirror adds that he would plan to use the interest in him to help him secure a much healthier transfer budget at Newcastle – so perhaps the Magpies fans may have Sociedad to thank if the interest tempts Mike Ashley to spend big this summer.

Losing Benitez shouldn’t be an option
Benitez has not got everything right since arriving at Newcastle, but he has done a wonderful job since coming in and Ashley should know that he can take the team higher also if given the resources.
The fact that some fans may fear the possibility of Benitez being tempted by Sociedad should set alarm bells off for the Newcastle hierarchy as the Magpies clearly have the potential to enjoy success if they give the manager the tools.
The interest may leave supporters concerned, but perhaps – if it tempts Ashley to change his transfer strategy – the suggestion that Benitez may have the opportunity to leave may be exactly what ends up pushing the club forward this summer.
