Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is ready to hand new loan signing Christian Atsu his United debut at QPR on Tuesday evening (7.45pm kick-off).

The Ghanaian international didn’t make the bench for the Magpies 2-0 Championship win over Derby County on Saturday but now it appears he will be given the chance to impress at Loftus Road.

Atsu’s previous spells at Premier League clubs Everton and Bournemouth didn’t offer much game time but now the 24-year-old will be hopeful of getting more minutes under his belt in the second tier.

And Benitez is willing to offer the winger exactly that after some encouraging displays in training.

Some people were a little concerned (about his lack of game-time),” the Newcastle manager told The Chronicle.

“But what we have seen and the info we have is quite good. He will settle down and get fit.

“In training, he has been offering the things we expect from him. We are really pleased because he’s the kind of winger we were looking for.

“Hopefully he can give us what we are looking for. I am sure he will give us good games, assists and some good goals.”

Unfortunately for Atsu, the surprise resurgence of French wideman Yoan Gouffran could limit his game time particularly after the 30-year-old’s emphatic volley at Derby over the weekend.

But with Championship games coming thick and fast, Benitez seemingly has a big squad that is well equipped for the league and Atsu is likely to be given a run-out against the Rs.
