The Newcastle United manager is eager to sign the Slovakian goalkeeper.
Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has contacted Sparta Prague as he looks to secure a deal for goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
The Slovakian shot-stopper has been heavily linked with a switch to Newcastle and Benitez is determined to ensure that the deal comes to fruition, as reported by Tutto Mercato Web.
The report indicates that Benitez has informed Sparta Prague manager Andrea Stramaccioni of his desire to sign Dubravka, who has kept six clean sheets in eleven league appearances this season.
Dubravka possesses excellent reflexes and the 29-year-old is seen by Benitez as a good option to improve Newcastle’s goalkeeping situation, with neither Karl Darlow or Rob Elliot having been especially impressive for the Magpies this season.
Newcastle have let in 31 goals in the Premier League this season and cannot afford to concede with such regularity in the remainder of the campaign if they are to preserve their top flight status.
Dubravka has impressed for Sparta Prague since joining from Slovan Liberec last summer but it remains to be seen whether he will now make the switch to Newcastle and test himself in the Premier League.
