Newcastle United reportedly remain keen on Leicester City’s Islam Slimani.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United have asked about a deal for Leicester City striker Islam Slimani ahead of the January transfer window.
The Magpies lost 1-0 at Arsenal on Saturday afternoon, meaning they have now lost eight of their last nine games, with Rafael Benitez’s men desperately struggling right now.
Benitez will hope for a boosted transfer budget in January if club is taken over, and a new striker is almost certainly set to be his priority, with Joselu and Dwight Gayle struggling to score consistently and Aleksandar Mitrovic looking set for the exit.
Now, the Daily Mail report that Newcastle have enquired about a deal for Leicester City’s Islam Slimani, in the hope of finally landing the Algerian international.
As reported by The Mirror over the summer, Newcastle wanted to sign Slimani, but were ultimately priced out of a move as the Foxes looked to recoup most of their £30million outlay.
Slimani arrived from Portuguese side Sporting in 2016, after hitting 57 goals in 109 games, but he has failed to live up to expectations with Leicester, finding the net just eight times in 29 games last season.
The target man has been a bit-part figure this season, starting only one Premier League game whilst playing just nine minutes under new manager Claude Puel.
A January exit could be on the cards, and whilst Newcastle are reportedly hoping to do a deal, it’s claimed that Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Watford are also keen, meaning the Magpies face something of a battle to land him in January.
