Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are interested in signing Joao Pedro from Watford in the January transfer window, according to The Athletic.

The Athletic have reported this morning that Newcastle wanted to sign Pedro from Championship club Watford before they eventually secured the services of Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad.

The report has claimed that Pedro’s ‘potential and tactical flexibility means he continues to be spoken about internally’ at Newcastle.

90min reported on August 23 that Newcastle made an offer of £30 million including add-ons for the Brazilian, but Watford wanted £35 million.

Could Newcastle sign Joao Pedro from Watford in January?

In our opinion, Newcastle United could struggle to sign Joao Pedro from Watford in the January transfer window.

Now, of course, we know that Newcastle are a big and established club in the Premier League who have wealthy owners in PIF.

Under head coach Eddie Howe, the Magpies are going places.

However, Watford are aiming to win promotion back to the Premier League, and it is unlikely that the Hornets will cash in on him in the middle of the season.

The Hornets are not doing particularly well at the moment, but they will know that losing Pedro could only affect them adversely.

The 20-year-old Brazilian forward has scored two goals and given two assists in nine Championship appearances for Watford so far this season.

Pedro made 15 starts and 13 substitute appearances in the Premier League for Watford last season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the process.
