Newcastle United are now seriously discussing a move to sign Torino defender Perr Schuurs this summer.

Torino defender Perr Schuurs could become a prime Newcastle United target this summer amid internal discussions.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who report that Newcastle have held discussions over a move for Schuurs this summer.

It’s stated that Crystal Palace are also very interested in signing Schuurs as they fear losing Marc Guehi.

Torino know the Premier League interest is coming and have been trying to convince Schuurs to stay in Italy.

However, the Premier League will be difficult for Schuurs to turn down and Newcastle seem to be seriously considering a move.

The report highlights how Newcastle want another right-footed Serie A centre back in Napoli’s Kim Min-jae.

Yet with Manchester United leading that race, Newcastle could pivot to target Schuurs instead.

Perr Schuurs could join Sven Botman at Newcastle United

Schuurs is a former Liverpool trialist who showed promise at Fortuna Sittard before joining Ajax in 2018.

The 6ft 3in defender never really become a star man at Ajax and left the club last summer after 62 first-team appearances.

Now shining in Italy, Schuurs is starting to fulfil his potential with Torino and Newcastle now want him.

The move may well appeal to Schuurs given that he would be able to team up with Sven Botamn again.

Botman and Schuurs were in the Ajax ranks together and were the starting centre back pairing for the 2018-19 Jong Ajax side.

Add in appearances for the Netherlands Under-21’s and Schuurs and Botman have played 27 times together in their careers.

The idea would be for Schuurs to come in as competition for Fabian Schar as the right-footed centre back in Newcastle’s back line.

Botman has the left side locked down so we could see Schuurs and Botman reunite in the heart of the Newcastle back line for years to come.
