According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are trying to move on striker Yoshinori Muto this summer.
It’s claimed that sources close to Muto claim Newcastle are actively trying to sell him, with his future seemingly lying away from St James’ Park.
Newcastle have a striking crisis at the moment, with both Joelinton and Dwight Gayle out of action ahead of the new season.
Andy Carroll is the only striker at Steve Bruce’s disposal right now, but it seems like Muto is more likely to leave than be given another chance.
Rafael Benitez paid £9.5million to sign Muto from Mainz in 2018, which was seen as a gamble having failed to hit double figures in goals in any Bundesliga season.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, the Japanese international has struggled at Newcastle, scoring just one Premier League goal in 24 games for the Magpies.
The 28-year-old looks to have no future at Newcastle, but finding a buyer could be an issue, and they certainly won’t receive anything like the £9.5million they paid.
Muto has played just seven league games under Bruce, so his expected exit is no surprise; now, it’s all about getting him off the books and bringing in a new striker.
