Newcastle United could have the chance to move for Arsene Wenger.

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United have been approached about potentially bringing in Arsene Wenger as their new manager this summer.
The Magpies lost 3-2 at home to Liverpool on Saturday night, falling to defeat in their final game at St James’ Park this season.
It’s been another decent campaign under Rafael Benitez, but that may have been his final game as Newcastle boss given that his contract expires in a matter of weeks, and no new deal looks close just yet.
Newcastle will have to start considering potential replacements soon, and The Chronicle claim that the Magpies may just have a golden chance to land Wenger as a successor.
It’s claimed that an agent close to Wenger has been talking to Newcastle about whether they’d be interested in the Frenchman, believing that he can tempted into a move to Tyneside.
Wenger, 69, hasn’t returned to football since leaving Arsenal last summer, sticking to punditry rather than taking another job, with his first real break since joining Arsenal from Nagoya Grampus Eight in 1996.

Whether Wenger would be interested in a move to Newcastle is another matter, but he would be a bold, big-name replacement for Benitez if it comes to that stage.
Benitez himself is a big fan of Wenger, telling the Daily Mail in 2013 that he thinks Wenger is a great manager and person, believing he was the best coach in the Premier League at that time – and these shock new claims talk up the chances of him succeeding Benitez at St James’ Park.
