Newcastle United and Stoke City are both interested in signing Borussia Dortmund winger Andre Schurrle during the January transfer window.

It has been a hugely frustrating window for the Magpies so far. Rafa Benitez is still awaiting his first signing as speculation surrounding the club’s ownership continues, and he will surely be hoping that they can take their attempts to land some new faces up a gear in the coming days.

Similarly, Stoke will be hoping that they can use the final 10 days of the window to get some players in for new manager Paul Lambert. The Potters won at the weekend, but they are still in a precarious position in the Premier League.
And it appears that they are both keen to land Schurrle, who has endured a frustrating season with Borussia Dortmund, having made just six appearances, and just two starts, in the Bundesliga this term.

Schurrle was impressive during his time with Chelsea considering he was not given a substantial chance, and both managers may perhaps feel that they may have a chance of winning the race if he does become available.
The Sun reports that Benitez was the Blues manager when talks began about a move to Stamford Bridge, while Lambert has the contacts in Dortmund having enjoyed an extremely successful spell with the club as a player.
