Premier League trio Newcastle United, Southampton and Fulham are keen to sign Vitoria Guimaraes defender Jorge Fernandes in a £16 million deal, as reported by the Mail.
Former Tottenham Hotspur youngster Marcus Edwards is not the only Vitoria starlet being linked with a move to England ahead of the January transfer window.
While a winger Mauricio Pochettino famously compared to Lionel Messi leaves defenders dazed and confused at one end, 6ft 4ins Fernandes is making a real name for himself at the other for the Primeira Liga outfit.
Vitoria paid less than £1 million to sign the Braga-born 23-year-old from Porto over the summer but, according to the Mail, Fernandes’ price-tag has soared in the space of a few months.
With Newcastle, Fulham and Southampton interested, Vitoria are expected to demand £16 million.

Fernandes has played just seven league matches for Vitoria and, remarkably enough, they have conceded only two goals in that time.
It is not hard to imagine the rangy youngster thriving at Fulham and Southampton, given his elegant, ball-playing approach.
His 6ft 4ins frame, meanwhile, could make Fernandes an ideal fit for a Newcastle side who like to sit deep and soak up the pressure.
