Newcastle United and Manchester United are both reportedly interested in signing RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara. Now, a report from Jeunes Footeux claims that Leipzig have set his asking price at £42million.

Haidara, 23, has become a regular at Leipzig over the last few seasons – having joined the club from Salzburg in January 2019. Already, he has clocked up 101 appearances for Leipzig – and is currently at AFCON.

The Mirror claim Newcastle are hoping to beat Manchester United to the signing of the 24-time Mali ace. Haidara is renowned for his work rate, his ability to anchor the midfield, passing, and even the odd goal involvement.

In his 101 games, he has been involved in 16 goals – scoring 10 and creating six. Now, any hope of a January move has been boosted – Jeunes Footeux reporting a fee of £42million is needed, a club-record for Newcastle.

£42m for Haidara: Brilliant for both Newcastle and Manchester United

It has been widely reported that Manchester United need a central midfielder, one that can improve on Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic. £42million for Haidara would be stunning United business.

Of course, Rangnick knows Haidara well following his spell at Leipzig – the man to actually sign him for the Bundesliga club. Newcastle, meanwhile, have brought in Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.

But Newcastle still need a couple of centre-backs, a left-back and a midfielder. Haidara would solve that issue in midfield – even for a club-record fee of £42million, £2million more than Joelinton.

Bundesliga’s website suggest he could the be the next Steven Gerrard, in a five facts piece about the Leipzig ace.
