Newcastle and Leeds have been handed a boost to sign Olympique Marseille star Boubacar Kamara, with AS Roma halting their efforts to sign the youngster this month.
According to La Repubblica via GIFN, the Roman club will not make a move for Kamara in January, with Roma instead eyeing an attempt in the summer when Kamara’s contract expires with Marseille.
Kamara is a target for both Leeds and Newcastle as reported by the Daily Mail, with the 21-year-old likely to be one of the most sought-after players in both the January and summer transfer window.
However, as reported by the Sun, Kamara is eyeing a huge contract, with the defensive midfielder demanding £150,000-a-week if he is to leave Marseille in 2022.
Whilst these demands seem ridiculous for a 21-year-old, the news that Roma are no longer in the race for Kamara this window is huge for both Leeds and Newcastle, who will both now feel confident in getting a deal done for the youngster.
Roma stance on Kamara is huge for both Leeds and Newcastle

The lure of Jose Mourinho could have been a deciding factor for Kamara. However, after this update from Italy, Leeds and Newcastle will now have an extra spring in their step when trying to lure the youngster to England.
With Alfredo Pedulla claiming in the summer that Marseille would be open to selling Kamara for £15m, the two Premier League sides could try their luck with Kamara this month, who was labelled as an ‘extraordinary’ talent by former teammate Rolando.
At 21, Kamara is already extremely experienced in one of Europe’s top leagues. Able to play in both midfield and defence, the future French international could be the spine of both Newcastle and Leeds for many years to come if they play their cards right this January.
