According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle and Crystal Palace are keen to sign RC Lens forward Gaël Kakuta, while Watford are also interested.

Kakuta, who once played for Chelsea, was billed as a wonderkid while at Stamford Bridge.

As the Daily Mail recall, Carlo Ancelotti once called him the future of Chelsea – there was plenty of hype when Kakuta was a youngster.

Sadly, he failed to live up to his potential, but he could just be a late bloomer given his heroics this season.

In 33 Ligue 1 appearances, Kakuta has scored 11 goals while also recording five assists, which isn’t bad at all.

The 29-year-old is currently on loan at RC Lens, but his performances have triggered a permanent move from Amiens.

However, RC Lens are still open to selling their 9-cap DR Congo forward.

The Daily Mail believe a fee of £8.6 million will be enough to bring Kakuta back to the Premier League.

It’s been a while since he played in England, although the Lille-born attacker does have experience at Premier League level.

Kakuta made 17 Premier League appearances across spells at Chelsea, Bolton and Fulham.

£8.6 million really isn’t that much for Premier League clubs, even in a market damaged by COVID-19.

If Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Watford really are keen, then keep an eye on this transfer saga – Kakuta is in form, and very affordable.
