Newcastle United, Sunderland and Crystal Palace have been linked with Everton midfielder James McCarthy in the January transfer window.
Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are interested in signing Everton midfielder James McCarthy in the January transfer window, according to The Northern Echo.
It has been reported that Championship club Newcastle and Premier League outfit Palace have formally expressed interest in the 26-year-old.
According to the report, Sunderland were also interested in the Republic of Ireland international at one stage, but they have now dropped out of the running.

Newcastle and Palace are not the only clubs linked with McCarthy, though. The Daily Mail recently reported of West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa’s interest in the former Wigan Athletic star.
McCarthy has been on the books of Everton since the summer of 2013 and has a contract with the Merseyside outfit until June 2020, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

The Republic of Ireland international has been able to play just eight times in the Premier League for the Toffees so far this season, creating one chance in the process.
Everton are seventh in the Premier League table at the moment with 36 points from 22 matches.
