Leeds United appear to have won the race for his signature, but their Championship rivals Newcastle seemingly wanted the player.
According to the Daily Mirror’s live transfer feed (January 30th 2017; 18:45), Leeds United have managed to see off competition in the race to sign Alfonso Pedraza from one of their main rivals for promotion from the Championship.

The 20-year-old appears to be on his way to Elland Road for a medical before completing a loan deal that could be made permanent in the summer for around £8.5 million if the Whites ultimately go up (via Yorkshire Evening Post).
But it appears that Leeds were not the only club in England’s second tier who wanted to bag the winger’s signature as the Mirror’s live transfer feed reports that Newcastle United were also interested in bringing him in from Villarreal, as were Real Sociedad and Sporting Gijon.
Newcastle will certainly be hoping that seemingly missing out on Pedraza does not prove costly in the race for automatic promotion.

The Magpies boast a significant lead over Leeds in the race for the top two – Garry Monk’s men are currently fourth in the table, seven points off second having played a game more – but there is still a long way to go in the campaign and it may just take a few results for the pressure to begin to build.

And with Pedraza having already scored six goals from a wide role during his loan spell with Spanish second division side Lugo this season, it appears that he has the ability to make an impact during the final months of the campaign.
