According to Area Napoli, Newcastle are leading Manchester United and Real Madrid in the race to sign Victor Osimhen.

What’s the story?

Well, this is quite the story for Newcastle fans to digest.

Area Napoli believe the Magpies are fronting the queue to sign Osimhen, who became Napoli’s club-record signing when they bought him for £81.3m in 2020.

The Nigerian has a contract in Naples until June 2025, so he isn’t expected to be cheap.

However, due to the financial impacts of COVID-19, Napoli would presumably be willing to accept a loss on what they paid for Osimhen.

So far this season, the 23-year-old has scored 11 goals in 21 appearances, despite missing a number of games with a fractured cheekbone.

Osimhen is widely considered as one of the most promising forwards in Europe, while he’s also been likened to Didier Drogba.

Victor Osimhen would thrive at Newcastle

In our view, Osimhen is built for the Premier League.

The Lagos-born forward is very quick, boasts fantastic upper-body strength, and has a keen eye for goal.

Osimhen has already shown a glimpse of what he could do in the Premier League when he put Leicester to the sword during the Europa League group stage.

With Napoli 2-0 down to the Foxes at the King Power Stadium, Osimhen scored twice to snatch a point.

Unfortunately, he missed Leicester’s visit to Naples due to the aforementioned cheekbone fracture he suffered in November.

Keep an eye on this saga, as it would be a major coup for Newcastle to beat Manchester United and Real Madrid to his signature.
