Newcastle United have agreed terms with their Atlanta namesakes over the transfer of Miguel Almiron to Tyneside, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The website claims Almiron – a reported top target for Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez – is flying to England for a ‘physical’ on Tuesday.

Barring any hiccoughs, the Paraguayan attacking midfielder will become the Magpies’ first signing of the January transfer window.

The AJC states financial terms of the deal are not yet known, although it states Newcastle had ‘reportedly’ not wanted to pay more than $20 million (around £15 million) – $10 million short of the asking price outlined by Atlanta’s president, Darren Eales.
