According to L’Equipe, Newcastle United have made contact with Paris Saint-Germain to discuss a deal for Idrissa Gueye.
It’s claimed that the two teams are waiting to learn what Gueye decides to go – and his stance may not give Newcastle much hope.
Gueye allegedly does fancy a return to the Premier League, but he wants to join a club higher up in the table than Newcastle.
An agreement is in place, but it’s now in Gueye’s hands ahead of Monday night’s transfer deadline as Newcastle look to land a big deal.
Gueye, 31, doesn’t want to sit on the PSG bench, and a return to England could see him land guaranteed playing time.
The former Everton man – sold for €32million (£28million) in the summer of 2019 – would immediately come in and be Newcastle’s leading midfielder.

Gueye is a relentless, hard-working and defensively-impressive midfielder who could provide some real energy and grit to Newcastle’s midfield.
This is a rather ambitious move from Newcastle, and Steve Bruce will be desperate to get the Senegal international on board over the next 24 hours.
