According to the Chronicle, Newcastle have now agreed a new contract with Under-23 prospect Dylan Stephenson, who has been on fire this season.

What’s the story?

Well, the 19-year-old’s future at Newcastle was up in the air, although the Magpies have now agreed fresh terms with the exciting teenager.

The Chronicle believe Stephenson is set to head out on loan, with Hartlepool among the potential destinations.

This will come as welcome news for Eddie Howe, who took a shine to the youngster shortly after replacing Steve Bruce in November.

According to the Chronicle, the 44-year-old invited Stephenson to train with the first-team at Little Benton, after being impressed by what he’d seen.

So far this season, the Newcastle wonderkid has been in fantastic form, scoring 11 goals in 19 appearances, while also providing two assists.

Stephenson also scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Sunderland’s Under-23 side, which will please the Toon Army.

Newcastle should hand Dylan Stephenson his Premier League debut

In our view, if Newcastle can secure survival with a few games to spare, Howe should give Stephenson his Premier League debut.

Aside from the Longstaff brothers, those in the Newcastle Academy haven’t really had much to be inspired about in recent times.

Under Steve Bruce, the Academy was neglected. Therefore, it would be huge for those in Newcastle’s Under-23 side to see Stephenson play in the Premier League.

Imagine the motivation it would give them to impress Howe.

Above all, the 19-year-old deserves it. If survival can be secured soon, then we see no reason why Howe shouldn’t give Stephenson a special experience.
