Neco Williams is reportedly set to stay at Liverpool.
Earlier this summer, it was reported that as many as six clubs were keen on signing the 20-year-old Liverpool defender.
But with the Premier League season kicking off this weekend, the Wales international remains on Merseyside.
And according to The Athletic, Williams, who came through the club’s academy, could wind up staying at Anfield for the 2021-22 campaign.
Too expensive?
According to The Echo, Liverpool would let Williams leave for around £10 million.
And that’s a substantial fee for someone with only 12 Premier League appearances to his name.
There’s no doubting that he’s a talented lad but until he is proven in the Premier League, even Michael Edwards may struggle to pocket that sort of fee for the club.
That being said, this is a player with a lot of talent, even if he isn’t deemed good enough to challenge Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.
And last year, left-back Andy Robertson told Liverpool’s official website that the youngster simply has ‘so much ability‘.
An exit could still materialise, but it might require the Reds to drop their asking price.
