Sheffield United are set to hand manager Chris Wilder an improved contract to ward off interest from Sunderland, reports the Sheffield Star.
According to Sky Sports, the Black Cats had shortlisted Wilder as a potential target to succeed David Moyes at the Stadium of Light following his sacking.
The North East club had hoped Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes would take over from Moyes ahead of their first season back in the Championship in 10 years, but he knocked them back.
Understandably the Blades are keen to keep hold of Wilder themselves after he guided them to the League One title and promotion in 2016/17.

The club have offered the 49-year-old a new deal that will keep him beyond 2019 – which was the end of the original deal he signed after making the move from Northampton Town and taking charge of United in 2016.
If, as expected, Wilder signs this new contract then once again Sunderland will be left searching for someone to take over from Moyes ahead of the new campaign.
