According to Fabrizio Romano, Andrey Santos is set for a medical at Chelsea.
The Brazilian midfielder had been strongly linked with a move to Newcastle United this January, but, much to the frustration of the Magpies, the South American is set for Stamford Bridge.
Newcastle were said to be big fans of this youngster. In fact, according to Graeme Bailer on the Talking Transfers Podcast, the Tyneside club thought that Andrey could have been the next Bruno Guimaraes.
“They thought they had this boy. Coming from Vasco De Gama. He is one of the best young players in Brazil and they saw him as like a baby Bruno. They thought Bruno Guimaraes would be the ideal person to bring him on,” Bailey said.
Unfortunately, the so-called new Guimaraes is set for Chelsea rather than Newcastle.

As we all know, Chelsea aren’t wasting any time this winter. They’ve already secured the signing of Datro Fofana, and now Andrey is set to join.
However, we may have to wait some time to see the youngster make his debut for the west London club.
Indeed, the teenager is set to remain at Vasco de Gama on loan until the end of the season, so he will have to wait for his chance to make a mark in the Premier League.
Of course, there’s no guarantee that he’ll even get a shot at Chelsea. After all, the Blues have garnered a real reputation over the years of wasting these types of talents after signing them up as teenagers.
Who knows? Perhaps Andrey will regret choosing Chelsea over Newcastle in years to come. The Magpies are currently on the up and they’re historically more open to giving chances to young players.
