Liverpool may face another transfer blow as Mason Mount and Chelsea now have renewed confidence of a new contract.

That is according to 90Min, who report that Chelsea believe they can now convince Mount to stay put after all.

Chelsea are going for big-name managers like Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues seemingly think that landing one of those bosses will be enough to tempt Mount into staying put.

The report adds that Mount is ‘feeling more confident’ about his future at Chelsea because of these managerial plans.

An agreement isn’t close just yet but Chelsea have new hope that their homegrown star will stay at Stamford Bridge.

This is an enormous blow for Liverpool, who had been targeting a move for Mount this summer.

Mason Mount update a real dent for Liverpool

The Reds are desperate to add new midfielders this summer in order to refresh Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Jude Bellingham had been their top target but a deal for the Borussia Dortmund star now looks unlikely.

Liverpool are thought to have backed away from the Bellingham race, seemingly feeling that splashing so much money on one player isn’t a good idea.

Liverpool were seemingly turning to Mount instead as Football London claimed this week that the Chelsea midfielder has become Liverpool’s top priority over Bellingham.

The Reds allegedly felt that Mount’s contract situation made him the ideal addition to Klopp’s midfield.

Klopp was seemingly convinced by Mount and TalkSPORT reported in March that Liverpool were gaining confidence in their pursuit of the Chelsea midfielder.

Out of contract in 2024, Mount seemed destined to leave Chelsea this summer and Liverpool were emerging as the most likely destination.

However, there his now new confidence that Mount will choose to stay in West London rather than head to Merseyside.

This has been a difficult week for Liverpool on the midfield front and news of Mount potentially staying at Chelsea only makes it worse.
