According to the Daily Record, Celtic boss Neil Lennon wants to run with three goalkeepers next season – meaning he could sign two stoppers.
It’s claimed that Lennon doesn’t want just one goalkeeper, but ideally wants to bring in two new faces in that position.
Wigan Athletic goalkeeper David Marshall is thought to be a top target having not only played with Lennon at Celtic in the past, but also worked with goalkeeping coach Stevie Woods with Scotland.
Free agent Joe Hart and AEK Athens stopper Vasilios Barkas are other targets, but the idea to sign two goalkeepers may actually be a longer play for Fraser Forster.
Celtic may sign one goalkeeper to compete with Scott Bain initially, and then give themselves and loanee Forster more time to resurrect a return.
Forster currently looks unlikely to return having snubbed another loan move, but Celtic haven’t given up hope just yet with Chelsea seemingly out of the race for him.
Ross Doohan is set to go out on loan to Ross County, but Connor Hazard seemingly isn’t considered to be ready for first-team consideration yet.
The news may come as a blow for Bain, who may only be third-choice next season if Lennon gets his way, but having lost Craig Gordon and now Forster, it’s no great surprise that he wants two signings.
