According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic’s Neil Lennon is interested in bringing striker Gary Hooper back to Parkhead on a free transfer this summer.

The Bhoys clinched an eighth straight league title on Saturday, and interim boss Lennon is tightening his grip on the job as he attempts to secure a permanent return to Parkhead.

Lennon will be favourite for the job, and he will be eyeing up potential signings in case he is named as Brendan Rodgers’ successor in the Celtic dugout.

Now, The Scottish Sun report that Lennon has eyed up a striker signing for the summer, as he wants to bring Hooper back to the club for absolutely nothing.

Hooper, 31, has endured injury hell for Sheffield Wednesday, and after 30 goals in 83 games for the Owls, he has been released at the end of his contract.

Now available for free, Hooper is bound to attract interest, and Lennon seems to be keen on a reunion, nine years since paying £2.5million to sign him from Scunthorpe United (Guardian).

Hooper spent four years with Celtic before heading to Norwich City, and he was an absolute hero at Parkhead with 82 goals in 138 games whilst winning two league titles.

Nostalgia aside, Hooper isn’t the player he once was, and whilst he’d offer experienced depth at Celtic in a cheap deal, whether he’d actually improve Lennon’s squad is another matter.
