According to the Daily Mail, Napoli are back in for Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos during this month’s transfer window.
The Italian side were heavily linked with the Greek defender over the summer, but no move materialised.
Napoli are thought to be back in for Sokratis though, whilst Fenerbahce are rivalling them for his signature.
Sokratis, 32, hasn’t played a Premier League game for Arsenal this season having been exiled by Mikel Arteta, meaning a January exit has to be on the cards.
Signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2018, Sokratis hasn’t particularly solved Arsenal’s defensive issues, and it’s time for him to go.
The veteran is out of contract at the end of the season anyway, and after sitting on the sidelines in the first half of the season, he should be looking to leave for first-team action elsewhere.
A move to Napoli would see him reunite with Gennaro Gattuso, as the duo played together for AC Milan in the 2010-11 season.
That may well be why Napoli want Sokratis, and with Arsenal unlikely to stand in his way, it has to be an appealing move for the experienced centre back.
