According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli have ‘request information’ about a possible deal for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nabil Bentaleb.
Spurs are on the hunt for a new defensive midfielder this summer, with The Mirror reporting that a deal for Southampton’s Victor Wanyama – a player who worked with manager Mauricio Pochettino on the South Coast – is close to completion.
If Wanyama does arrive, the futures of players like Tom Carroll, Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb will be brought into question – and the latter is already attracting interest.
Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Napoli are keen to lure Bentaleb to Italy, and have ‘requested information’ about a possible deal; though it isn’t clear whether their enquiry has been made to Spurs or the player’s representatives.
Bentaleb, 21, impressed in Pochettino’s first season as Spurs manager, earning a huge new five-year contract extension last summer before enduring a difficult campaign.
The Algerian made just five Premier League appearances for Tottenham this past season, with only five starts in all competitions as he struggled with both form and fitness.
After such a disappointing season, manager Pochettino could give some real consideration to selling the young midfielder, but unless Napoli are planning to spend big money on him, Spurs should be looking keep Bentaleb and give him a chance to rediscover his form next season.
