On paper, West Ham had a very successful transfer window last summer. Manuel Pellegrini’s side signed Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti, both of whom had incredible individual campaigns last season.
The most exciting signing, however, was Pablo Fornals from Spanish side Villareal. The 23-year-old midfielder cost the Hammers £24 million (BBC), which seemed a bargain considering the number of clubs after him.
Napoli, to this day, regret missing out on the young Spanish midfielder according to Corriere dello Sport, and the Italian giants would be interested in a move if the opportunity arises this summer.
Fornals has not taken the Premier League by storm by any means, but he has shown flashes of what he is capable of.
The Spaniard has three goals and five assists to his name and, with more time on the pitch, he can be a very important part of the Hammers’ squad.
The report says that Napoli know that any deal to bring him to Italy will be complicated, considering that he signed for West Ham less than a year ago.
It will take a considerable amount of money for West Ham to even consider selling him this summer, and the possibility of Napoli offering that during a period of crisis is almost zero.
With Lanzini on the brink of an exit and, with Jack Wilshere’s injury issues stopping him from playing regularly, Fornals is likely to become the most important attacking member in West Ham’s midfield, which eliminates any need to sell him this summer.
