Report: Napoli have resigned themselves to Gabriel joining Arsenal

According to Corriere Dello Sport, Napoli are resigned to missing out on Lille defender Gabriel, believing he is now joining Arsenal.

It’s claimed that Napoli were pushing for Gabriel to join them, with the centre back pursued for much of the summer.

However, Napoli now think that Gabriel is heading to Arsenal, and they have now backed away from the race with his destination seemingly set.

Aurelio De Laurentiis had struck a deal with Lille president Gerard Lopez, but the player is believed to have picked Arsenal.

Add in that The Independent claim Arsenal are on the brink of signing Gabriel for £27million, and it looks like the Gunners have got their man.

Gabriel, 22, enjoyed a superb season for Lille last term, thriving alongside Jose Fonte at the back with height, aerial ability and power.

The Brazilian is also left-footed, which will give Mikel Arteta the balance he is seeking in the heart of the Arsenal defence.

With Napoli seemingly out of the race, Arsenal are nearing another big summer addition – and they will hope that Gabriel can justify the fee and their efforts to sign him.
