Let’s be honest, not many Liverpool fans were too unhappy to see Dejan Lovren leave the club last summer.

The Croatia international had a bit of a reputation for being quite error prone during his five-year stay at Anfield.

And although Liverpool fans would never celebrate a player’s exit, they won’t have shed many tears either.

One star who would’ve been upset over Lovren’s departure to Zenit St Petersburg would’ve been Mohamed Salah.

The duo had developed something of a bromance on Merseyside, with Salah describing him as a ‘great friend‘ during an emotional farewell message to the big defender a year ago.

Within two weeks of his exit, Liverpool signed Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos in an £11 million deal [Sky Sports] – and it seems like he has filled the void for Salah.

According to The Athletic, the Egypt international and Tsimikas have a struck up a ‘strong bond’ with one another, in the context of the former’s happiness at Anfield amid speculation of a pending contract extension.

More to come from Tsimikas

Tsimikas only had five minutes of Premier League football under Jurgen Klopp last season – literally five minutes – but this time around, he and Salah may be sharing the pitch a lot more regularly.

With Andy Robertson sidelined, the Greek left-back is set for increased playing time and he impressed in a big way last weekend as Liverpool hammered Norwich City 3-0 at Carrow Road.
